On our exclusive shore event we will take a brief drive through the town of Messina, Sicily’s Gate. Along the way, pass by the Town Hall Square, Cathedral Square, the University and Law Courts and Piazza Cairoli, known as the ‘heart of the town’.
From here we will leave Messina behind and travel along the coastal road bordered by villas, flowering gardens and picturesque villages. Once we reach Santa Teresa, the largest coastal town between Messina and Taormina we will then travel along picturesque roads inland to Savoca, a lovely old village nestled between two hills.
We will take a slow walking tour along the village’s uphill-sloping main street, viewing the Chiesa Madre, San Michele and Immacolata Churches and visit the Santa Lucia Church built in the 15th-16th centuries, along with magnificent vistas over the valley.
In a private house at the entrance of the village we will find the “Bar Vitelli”, which displays a collection of local artisan tools and photographs taken when Francis Ford Coppola was in this area shooting scenes from The Godfather, Part II.
And finally we will enjoy a stop at a bar for a refreshing taste of a typical Sicilian lemon “granita” before continuing our journey to Forza d’Agro’ where Al Pacino and Sophia Coppola came to shoot some scenes of the film “Godfather Part III”.
