22 Night Carnival In Rio Voyage – February 2022

23 February –  17 March 2022

Join Wine Diva Deb on Azamara Quest and cruise to Carnaval. Sail from Buenos Aires, “The Paris of South America”, to spend a day exploring Punta del Este’s stunning white beaches and bustling harbor-front before spending two days at sea. Surrounded by the open waters of the Atlantic, it’s the perfect excuse to experience all that your boutique hotel at sea has to offer—from spa treatments to exquisite dining—while building your excitement for Carnaval.

The pinnacle moment of this voyage, settle in for two energetic nights celebrating a Rio de Janeiro tradition that goes back to the 1700s. We visit during the peak of Carnaval festivities—including Fat Tuesday—and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more exhilarating and memorable festival anywhere on earth.

After an excitement-packed two nights in Rio, it’s back up Brazil’s coast to dock in Salvador de Bahia overnight, where you’ll be awed by opulent churches and architecture in Pelourinho, the city center. Sample the local cuisine, a savory and spicy blend of Brazilian and African flavors.

Sail to Brazil’s northeastern coast to discover two sunny seaside ports. Embrace your sense of adventure in Natal by exploring its towering dunes, warm beaches, and freshwater lagoon. Fortaleza offers 16 miles more of world-renowned beaches. Find a spot to sun yourself, snorkel the reef-lined coast, and indulge in a meal of fresh local seafood.

After two days of cruising back up the coast, take a moment to discover the dark history of Devil’s Island, a former penal colony just off the coast of Kourou, French Guiana. Tour the abandoned buildings surrounded by lush jungle and wild monkeys, and soak up the French Creole culture of the neighboring islands.

Another day at sea brings us to “Little England,” Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. Immerse yourself in Caribbean culture from this city awash in impeccably preserved British colonial architecture. A touch of London—but with sun—a late stay here affords you plenty of opportunity to sip on some rum at the Mount Gay Rum Distillery and take advantage of the duty-free shopping.

Then it’s on to another historic city, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The second oldest European settlement in the Americas, see the original fortress walls that surround the port as you walk the blue-hued cobbled streets of the Old Town in search of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and eateries pulsing with salsa music.

Relax at sea for two nights en route to our final port, Miami. Unwind and enjoy everything our boutique hotel at sea has to offer including head-to-toe spa treatments, destination inspired-dining, and lively entertainment before disembarking.

Port Details

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Welcome to elegant, cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, with its European colonial architecture and colorful mix of cultures. Each district has its own style: enjoy Palermo with its mansions and parks; shop in the chic boutiques of Soho and Hollywood; and soak up the Italian flavor of La Boca where tango dancers and artists display their talents for passersby.

Punta Del Este, Uruguay

Punta del Este’s white sand beaches are popular with families and the glitterati alike. Fashionable cafes and shops line the streets, and an evening harbor-front stroll will no doubt include a serenade by street musicians and entertainers. The town projects an artsy vibe, with the Brava Beach open air sculpture park, displaying large works in steel, concrete, wood, iron, and marble.

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Samba on down to Rio, easy going except for the four days of frenetic, feather-festooned Carnaval. No journey to Rio would be complete without a visit to one of the New Seven Wonders of the World—Christ the Redeemer. At the top of Corcovado Mountain, this 125-foot-tall statue of Jesus Christ spreads its arms over Rio and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Guanabara Bay.

Salvador De Bahia, Brazil

African rhythms are a part of Salvador’s local fabric, from Capoeira, a mix of martial arts and dance, to Candomble, a religion of ritual and magic. The city’s historic center is an architectural jewel, with an array of opulent churches. The slaves who built them were not allowed inside, so they labored at night for a century to build a beautiful church for themselves—Our Lady of the Rosary.

Natal, Brazil

This sunny city on Brazil’s northeast coast is brimming with beautiful beaches and endless outdoor adventure. It’s beloved by Brazilians as a vacation destination—and you’ll soon see why. Spend the day soaking up the sun, zooming over dunes by zipline or buggy, or snorkel a stunning reef known as the “Caribbean of Brazil”.

Fortaleza, Brazil

Journey to the capital of Northeastern Brazilian culture with a stop in beautiful Fortaleza. Theater hop amongst the city’s collection of historic and important centers of performance. Savor traditional barbecue cuisine or fresh-caught seafood paired with cachaça, the country’s favorite spirit. Shop for fair-trade handicrafts and meet local artisans. Or, simply relax and find your piece of paradise along Fortaleza’s 16-miles of beaches.

Devil’s Island, French Guiana

Escape to a paradise with a dark past. Explore the storied Devil’s Island penal colony on an adventure-packed voyage to French Guiana. Experience the French-inspired Creole cuisine and culture of nearby Kourou before embarking on a journey to the Iles du Salut to the scene of Henri Charrière’s “Papillon” and one of history’s most notorious prisons. Tour the grounds, take in the breathtaking rainforest scenery and decide for yourself whether Devil’s Island lives up to its name.

Bridgetown, Barbados

Brimming with British Colonial influences, you may think you’re walking down the streets of jolly old England, but there are a few giveaways in Bridgetown—warm tropical breezes and brilliant turquoise waters for instance. Get the goods on Swan Street with excellent duty-free shopping, or try a tipple of rum at the Mount Gay distillery.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Get a feel for the history of San Juan with a stroll through the Old Town with its distinctive blue-hued cobbled streets. Pay a visit to Palacio de Santa Catalina, the official residence of the Governor of Puerto Rico and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterward, check out the beaches in Condado and Isla Verde—these strips of snow-white sand are places to see and be seen.

Miami, Florida

You’ll be hard pressed to find a city more vibrant than Miami! Home to an incredible array of cultures, Miami is the place to go to see Art Deco designs, dance the night away to Latin rhythms, snap photos of pink flamingos, and relax on legendary beaches—all on the same day! If you’re feeling more adventurous, rent a boat to explore the Everglades and catch a glimpse of an alligator or manatees.
